The Buehners are back with another Snowmen book, this time celebrating Halloween! When snow comes early, the children in this picturesque village make Halloween snowmen, dressing them up in seasonal costumes. The huge smiles and giggles on every page are contagious! It's a fun read sure to put you in the Halloween mood.

I loved finding something new each and every read. The pumpkin shaped clouds, names on the graves like IMA DONE, the green pickle nose on the witch snowman, and more. But the little details in the art really made this book a standout.

I loved it! From the rhyming text to the colorful, chock full illustrations. Hope they didn’t get too close to the heat though. Everything was decorated and ready for the holiday! We have apple-bobbing, mazes, and scary tales by firelight. :) Games, treats, and glowing lanterns only add more color and fun to the Halloween-y atmosphere. Pirates and punk rockers to bumblebees and bunnies! These pages are filled with so many creative costumes. I’ve enjoyed them over the years for sure, BUT…this one! This one is special. I’ve never been a huge fan of the Buehners’ Snowman series. He doesn’t want it to go back to the library. He has read it several times since our first reading.

My nephew has a lot of obsessions, they come and go, but he loves these snowmen series books and always has.

Students will draw a picture of a snowman. For beginning writers, a traceable sentence starter is included. I have included two levels of writing practice. The story features simple text that shows each step of building a snowman. There were layers and it’s about my favorite time of year. My 'Lets Build a Snowman' mini book practices the sight words I, can, put, on, two and color words. I love that the story is told in a rhyme. The fortune teller was really fun as well. The nephew loved the vampire and the punk rocker and he found Frankenstein, one of his favorites. There was a spider and branches made the spider legs. My favorite was Medusa and the snow made the snakes on her head. Some of the best fun was seeing costumes the snowmen wore. There are hidden pictures on each page and we couldn’t find them all. We then get to see what snowmen do for Halloween and guess what? It’s mostly just like what we do for Halloween. I lived through several and they were the best.įor this story, it snows the day of Halloween and kids sculpt snowmen and then dress them up for Halloween. People said, in Michigan, that if it snowed on or before Halloween, it was going to be a very long and cold winter.
